Media & Content Disputes

Our market-leading media and content disputes team is the largest and most experienced media defence team in the UK.

Overview

RPC's media team has been defending free speech rights and the media for over 30 years.

We represent a wide range of news organisations, broadcasters, online platforms, streaming services, NGOs, journalists, campaigners and members of the public who find themselves facing legal threats over content or personal data.

Whether you're on the receiving end of a defamation claim or privacy complaint, or need advice on a contentious data protection, contempt or open justice issue, we will support your interests with informed, commercial and user-friendly legal advice. And, where necessary, we will robustly defend your interests before the courts.

As technology has evolved, so has our expertise. We have led the charge on many of the landmark decisions in media and content law and regulation, adapting to the changing world of traditional news media and online communication.

With clients facing ever-increasing regulatory obligations in and outside the UK, our team regularly supports media and online platforms when engaging with regulators, including OFCOM, the ICO and IPSO. We represent our clients' interests in everything from tribunals to public inquiries, coronial inquests to Parliamentary select committees.

We know news is a perishable commodity. That's why we offer a dedicated pre-publication service, with experienced media lawyers providing editorial advice around the clock, seven days a week. We are well versed in handling emergency injunctions and providing out-of-hours legal support.

Don't just take our word for it: according to analysis in The Lawyer, we have defended more defamation and privacy disputes since 2015 than any other firm.  We are consistently top-ranked for media and reputation management in the legal directories.  And our clients genuinely enjoy working with us
