International law firm RPC has partnered with the London office of Nishimura and Asahi to advise a consortium of Japanese investors on its exciting first entry into the UK real estate market.

The consortium, comprised of Tokyo Tatemono, Toko Electrical Construction and Fuyo General Lease, have invested alongside Dutch developer Edge and Japan's Mitsubishi Estate London on the milestone redevelopment of the EDGE Shaftesbury office scheme, in the heart of London's West End.

The joint venture will see an existing 180,000 sq ft 1980's office building transformed into a 250,000 sq ft sustainable, Grade A office scheme, with completion anticipated in 2028. The project highlights the strength of sustainable office schemes in central London and the demand for prime workspace.

RPC provided all real estate and construction advice on the transaction. The team is led by Partner and Head of RPC's Real Estate team Elizabeth Alibhai, alongside Partners Nigel Collins, Arash Rajai and Ben Roberts, with support from Senior Associates Katherine Dobson and Ross Bentley.

Elizabeth Alibhai commented: "We are delighted to have worked alongside Nishimura and Asahi on this landmark transaction; drawing on the firm's expertise to help international investors navigate complex UK real estate investments."

Nigel Collins, Head of RPC's Japan desk, added: "This significant instruction reflects RPC's expertise in navigating complex, cross-border transactions and combining UK market insight with a deep understanding of our Japanese clients. We look forward to continuing to support Japanese clients with seamless, multi-jurisdictional advice."
